K99 V3 Physical Highlights
K99 V3 adds a dedicated multimedia knob, a Nano 2.4G receiver storage compartment, independent key backlighting and surround/ambient lighting, and model-specific status indicators. The supplied V3 documentation lists a 1.6m data cable and a low-front-height design of approximately 19mm.
Shared K99 Design Characteristics
Across the K99 family, the 98% layout keeps a dedicated number pad while reducing the overall width compared with a traditional full-size keyboard. The mechanical versions use a gasket-oriented structure and hot-swappable switch sockets, allowing compatible mechanical switches to be changed without soldering.
The original K99 and K99 V2 product materials emphasize multi-layer internal sound treatment. K99 V3 continues the same family direction with a six-layer internal acoustic structure and a choice of PC or FR4 plate on supported configurations. These structural parts influence typing feel and sound but do not change the basic connection or shortcut workflow.
Original K99 Switch & Keycap Options
The current official original-K99 product page lists KTT Hyacinth and Kailh Icy Creamsicle switch configurations. It also lists dual-shot PBT keycaps, with MDA-profile or side-engraved Cherry-height options depending on the product configuration. The original K99 supports compatible 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches through its hot-swappable sockets.
K99 V3 Plate Options
K99 V3 source material lists PC and FR4 plate variants. PC is the more flexible option, while FR4 is stiffer. The plate is part of the keyboard's internal typing structure, so feel and acoustic character can vary between versions even when the switch type is the same.

Connection Best Practices
- Use the receiver that was supplied with the keyboard. A receiver from another product or another keyboard may not be paired to your unit.
- For 2.4G, place the receiver where it is not directly blocked by a metal computer chassis or surrounded by multiple high-bandwidth USB devices.
- When troubleshooting BT, remove the old pairing entry before placing the selected K99 BT channel back into pairing mode.
- When switching between BT channels, short-press the channel shortcut after the device has already been paired; hold the shortcut only when you want to enter pairing mode.
- For firmware updates and the most predictable M HUB connection, use USB wired mode unless the specific update workflow explicitly supports 2.4G.
What the Mode Switch Does
The physical mode switch determines which connection system is active. On K99 V2/V3, B activates BT, OFF is the wired position, and 2.4G activates the receiver connection. The label OFF refers to the wireless radio position; the keyboard remains usable by USB cable when connected.
5. BT Multi-Device Switching
K99 V3, K99 V2, and the original K99 can store multiple BT channel pairings. After a device has been paired, short-press the corresponding channel shortcut to switch to it.
| Shortcut | Channel | K99 V3 Indicator | K99 V2 Indicator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fn + 1 | BT Device 1 | Blue | Blue |
| Fn + 2 | BT Device 2 | Purple | Purple |
| Fn + 3 | BT Device 3 | Cyan | Cyan |
The keyboard stores pairing information for quick switching; it does not actively control all paired devices at the same time.
6. Windows & macOS Modes

K99 V2 Backlight Effect Categories
The supplied K99 V2 manual presents 16 selectable positions in the backlight cycle. The translated names vary by source, but the documented set includes static lighting, breathing, rainbow-style effects, reactive lighting, ripple/wave effects, animated patterns, a custom mode, and an off position. Custom mode requires M HUB.
K99 V3 Backlight Effect Count
The supplied K99 V3 troubleshooting guide lists 24 backlight selections, including custom lighting and the backlight-off selection. Because the V3 uses independent lighting zones, the main key backlight and ambient/surround lighting can display different effects at the same time.
Custom Lighting
When a built-in shortcut does not provide the exact color or effect you want, use M HUB to configure the supported custom mode. Some animated effects use predefined color patterns and therefore do not expose every color control. This is expected behavior for those effects.
10. Indicators & Status Lights
K99 V3 Wireless Channel Indicator
| Connection | Indicator Color |
|---|---|
| 2.4G | Green |
| BT 1 | Blue |
| BT 2 | Purple |

K99 V2 Battery / Ambient Light Bar
In 2.4G or BT mode, the ambient light bar can be switched to battery-status mode. In wired mode, it automatically changes to a charging-status effect.
Caps Lock / Num Lock
Indicator behavior can vary by operating system. In macOS, the numeric keypad remains usable even though Num Lock behavior and the Num indicator may differ from Windows.
11. K99 V3 Multimedia Knob
| Action | Default Function |
|---|---|
| Rotate clockwise | Increase system volume |
| Rotate counterclockwise | Decrease system volume |
| Press | Mute / unmute |
Each rotary step adjusts system volume by approximately 2% in the supplied source documentation. The knob can also wake the keyboard from sleep. Its press action can be reassigned to a supported function in M HUB; the rotary volume function remains dedicated to volume control.
If you feel the tactile click but mute does not activate, press the knob fully downward rather than pressing from the side.
12. Battery & Charging
| Model | Battery Capacity | Source-Listed Runtime | Charging Guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| K99 V3 8K | 10,000mAh / 3.7V / 37Wh | Approx. 24h full-white backlight; 36h default backlight; up to 2500h backlight off. | Approx. 12–15h via computer USB; approx. 6–7h with a compatible adapter/cable; up to 10W charging. |

- In 2.4G mode, M HUB can show an estimated remaining battery level.
- In BT mode, the host operating system may show an accessory battery estimate.
Battery-Life Test Conditions
The runtime values in the supplied materials are reference measurements rather than guaranteed operating times. Lighting brightness, effect type, polling rate, wireless conditions, sleep interval, charging history, and the age of the battery can change the result. For longest wireless runtime, reduce lighting brightness or turn lighting off and use an appropriate sleep setting.
Using the Keyboard While Charging
K99 V2 and K99 V3 can be used by USB while charging. Charging may take longer when the keyboard is actively being used, especially with lighting enabled. If the battery is deeply discharged, allow the keyboard to charge for a period before troubleshooting wireless connection behavior.
13. Sleep & Wake
K99 V2 and K99 V3 provide wireless power-saving sleep settings through M HUB. Available values can vary with firmware and M HUB version. The supplied troubleshooting materials list approximately 30 seconds to 20 minutes, with an option to disable automatic sleep. Some legacy driver screens may label the disabled state as Never.
- Sleep settings apply to wireless modes.
- Wired mode does not use the same wireless power-saving sleep behavior.
- Press a key to wake the keyboard. On K99 V3, the knob can also wake the keyboard.
14. Keycaps, Switches & Hot-Swap
Removing a Keycap
- Disconnect or turn off the keyboard.
- Place the included keycap puller evenly around the keycap.
- Pull upward slowly and evenly.
- For stabilized keys such as Space, Enter, and Shift, lift carefully and avoid pulling sharply from one side.
Removing a Switch
- Remove the keycap first.
- Position the switch puller around the switch retaining tabs.
- Squeeze gently.
- Pull upward in a controlled, straight motion.
Mechanical-keyboard sound can vary naturally by key position, keycap size, switch characteristics, stabilizers, internal acoustic materials, and typing force. Larger stabilized keys can sound different from standard letter keys.
Switch Installation Check
- Inspect the replacement switch pins before installation.
- If a pin is bent, straighten it carefully before inserting the switch.
- Align the switch with the hot-swap socket and press straight down with even pressure.
- Reinstall the keycap and test the key in the MCHOSE Keyboard Test page.
Large Stabilized Keys
Space, Enter, Shift, and other larger keys use stabilizers. Their feel and sound can differ from standard single-unit keys. When removing or reinstalling a large keycap, keep it level so unnecessary sideways force is not applied to the stabilizer.
